Experts from the U.S. and Africa will meet on April 9 to discuss U.S.-Africa ties, China’s influence, and new trade openings amid U.S.-EU tensions
Experts, civil society leaders, and media practitioners from the USA, Africa, and across the globe will meet on April 9, 2025, in a session hosted by the US-Africa Think Group (USATG) to examine whether President Trump’s move to cancel USAID’s political role in Africa marks a retreat or a bold reset of U.S.-Africa relations centered on “Trade, not Aid.” The forum will also explore whether America will shift toward fair trade and investment with Africa—aligned with Trump’s transactional worldview—or continue merely warning Africans about China, and whether Trump’s tariff hikes on Europe could create new opportunities for African agricultural exports, especially from countries that meet U.S. standards.
