Energy Coordination Forum in Addis Ababa

Africa-EU Energy Partnership (AEEP) organized a discussion forum on Wednesday, 15 July 2015, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia on the issue of harmonizing Pan-African and international Energy initiatives.
Several international, regional and national initiatives and projects launched in Africa but still there is lack of full coordination.
African Union Commission – Department of Infrastructure and Energy (AUC-DIE), NEPAD-PCA, along with other Energy partners led the discussion under the forum’s theme “How to foster coherence among key energy actors in Africa”
The forum came in the context of the UN-Finance for Development Conference took place in Addis Ababa from 12-16 July 2015.
PIDA-JN met Mr. Aboubakari Baba Moussa, Director DIE, AUC at the event in Hotel Radisson BLU; he said the UN forum – Sustainable Energy for All (SE4ALL) held in New York in May 2015 set a framework for coordinating Energy initiatives and projects, “this forum will make use of the framework by continuing the dialogue on coordination, and also by enhancing the involvement of main African institutions AUC, NEPAD Agency, RECs, AfDB – with a possibility to play an anchor role as a coordination entity” Aboubakari said.
The conclusions of this meeting will further feed into the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals Summit in New York 25-27 September 2015, the South Africa International Renewable Energy Conference (SAIREC) in Cape Town, South Africa 04-07 October 2015, and eventually into COP 21 in Paris in December 2015.
